Mike Deacy wins Headteacher of the Year

All the staff were delighted earlier this year when they found out their nomination for Mike to be considered for Outstanding Headteacher of the Year at the Cornwall Teacher Awards was successful and Mike was shortlisted from the thousands of nominations received. Unknown to Mike, we managed to get a group of staff to complete the nomination video one Saturday afternoon, and even managed to talk the organisers into giving us 7 extra tickets so that we could be there on the night to surprise him.

Mike’s notification of his nomination couldn’t have come at a better time – during our Ofsted inspection, and despite this, Mike only told one member of staff and swore them to secrecy in a bid to keep anyone in the building from finding out. Regardless of his best efforts however, the secret meetings and planning continued with the staff, and Mike’s wife, and we managed to get a host of staff to surprise him just before the awards took place in Truro Cathedral – from the look on his face when he arrived this was a genuine surprise!

The evening was fantastic, and, as we all knew he should, Mike was chosen as the Outstanding Head Teacher of the Year! After posing for his obligatory photograph, Mike was able to escape the limelight, to his relief! All the staff are so proud of Mike and would like, once again, to congratulate him on this award – it is most definitely the recognition he deserves for the amazing job he does making Oak Tree the Outstanding school that it is! Well done Mike!
